The Carol of Lights® Tree has been at the heart of Texas Tech’s most cherished holiday tradition for nearly 60 years. In 1967, the Association of Women Students donated a 35-foot tree crafted from metal and natural materials. In the decades since, it has grown into a stunning 43-foot display, complete with a 5-foot nativity star and 2,900 sparkling lights.
From its position in Amon G. Carter Plaza, the tree welcomes visitors to campus throughout the holiday season. Each year, it serves as a favorite backdrop for photos, as well as a gathering place where students, families, alumni, and guests come together to celebrate the magic of Carol of Lights®.
The 30th Official Texas Tech Ornament is based on a photograph taken during the 1968 holiday season, recognizing the Carol of Lights® Tree and the place it holds in the hearts of Red Raiders young and old.
